The Penny Tapestries… April 2024

I love working with Jacquard. The textural quality. The surprise of the transformation that always occurs between artwork and finished weave. 

I began making jacquard tapestries in 2013, initially using my photographs to create the artwork and now I’m using acrylic paintings as my starting point.

I like to draw and paint quickly - almost so I don't notice what I’m doing. Things turn out better that way - when I’m not thinking too much. Then I photograph the picture and make some Photoshop additions- sometimes layering with other artwork.

I made these tapestries for my 'Pennies from Heaven' exhibit in Sydney at Studio Alm Design Gallery.
